Bringing Home Baby- What you need to be prepared with a newborn

I think bringing home your child is one of the most scariest things ever. You walk out of the those hospital doors and there is no turning back. You can’t return your baby if something goes wrong. I have been telling all of my friends lately that they should give you a manual to take home.

After strapping in baby to our car, we went on our first journey… to our house. I distinctively remember telling my husband to slow down even though he was barely going 30 mph. I was just worried about every little bump in the road, after all we were carrying precious cargo.

Walking through the front door for the first time with our baby was the best feeling ever. I want to share with you a few game changing items that really helped us out these first couple weeks with our baby.

Snuzpod

The Snuzpod is amazing! This mini crib/ slightly larger moses basket is a definitely a lifesaver. The fact that you can zip down the sides and you can attach it to your bed really helps with late night feeds. If you didn’t know in my labor and delviery story , I discuss my c-section which caused us to camp out in our living room for a few days. Being that the snuzpod is easily portable this in the living room with us as well. Its so helpful to place the baby in if you need free hands or convenient nap times.

Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep

My husbands favorite item! This makes the perfect temperature bottle in under two minutes. Extremely useful for those 3am feeds. Also, helpful for when you have a screaming baby who needs a bottle FAST!

Tommee Tippee Diaper Genie

I didnt know how much I loved this one until it was time to empty the first lot of diapers. When my husban opened it up and I realized the smell that this product hid from us, I knew it was “THE ONE.” It holds up to 180 diapers!

Hatch Night Light

The hatch lamp is so conveneint when it comes to bed time. It has a million different light settings and offers different white noises to get your baby to sleep. What I love most is that you can control everything it does from your phone. You can change the color( which you can customise), sound, brightness, and even add a timer.

Diaper Caddy

This diaper caddy is great for the lazy parent. We have two of them. One we keep in our lounge, and one we keep in our room. Our diaper caddy is filled with a changing mat, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bibs, burp cloths, hand sanitizer, and basically anything you need for baby so you dont have to leave where you are to change baby.

My first ultrasound

About a week after I found out I was pregnant, I experienced some spotting. I know the rate of miscarriage is extremely high during the first 12 weeks, which caused me to worry. I immediately phoned my doctor, who referred me to the early pregnancy unit at the local hospital. The agony of waiting 24 hours before I could find out if everything was ok with my pregnancy was indescribable.

I arrived at the hospital and they were having trouble with their sonogram machine. It took them forever to set their new machine. It felt like every single thing was making me wait longer and longer to find out if everything was ok with this pregnancy. After about 30 minutes, they finally figured out how to work their machine and called me back into the room. They set me up on the table and I started crying. The ultrasound techs were so sweet and held my hand throughout the process. I didn’t want to look at the screens as I have experienced a miscarriage before and hated the thought of seeing another empty ultrasound.

A few moments later, the tech said “it’s fine”, I thought she was trying to calm my nerves but she then said “no, everything is fine” and told me to look at the screen. There it was my little jellybean moving its little soon to be limbs. Seeing the little jellybean on-screen was magical. I know, I know it sounds cliche but that is exactly how it felt. The tech couldn’t find exactly why I was bleeding but said that everything looked fine. I was also shocked to learn that he was measuring 8 weeks instead of 6 weeks. The tech explained that it just means I ovulated earlier than normal.

After about ten minutes I left the hospital with the first-ever picture of our “jellybean”. I stopped in a coffee shop before heading home and sent my husband the sonogram picture. Looking back on it, I probably should have waited until he got home from work to show him, but I was too excited. I couldn’t contain it for that long! As if I could wait 5 hours to show him the sonogram picture. He was over the moon that everything was ok and our little jellybean was ok. This day gave us more hope that this pregnancy would be healthy. Still taking it day by day but with a bit more happiness each day.
